Geodetic Reference Network

Lunar Geodetic Reference + Position Network

The Lunar Geodetic Reference and Position Network is a passive 10-kilogram array comprising four cube-corner retroreflectors and reference markers that establishes one-centimeter absolute position accuracy for structural foundation monitoring. Operating with zero power consumption, the network coordinates with LunaNet and the Deep Space Network to maintain long-mission geodetic history. Surviving a 1,000-year operational lifetime requires the optical hardware to maintain precise mechanical and reflective alignment while exposed directly to vacuum, abrasive regolith dust, and repeated 300 K temperature swings across alternating 14-day lunar days and nights.
