Map Update Service

Incremental Map Update from Operations

The Map Update Service is a zero-mass software component hosted on radiation-hardened NOR flash that incrementally updates lunar topographic and feature maps using operational LIDAR scans, visual surveys, and settlement observations. Consuming 0.5 watts at a frequency of one update per day, the routine identifies differences against stored digital elevation models to record micrometeoroid crater formation and track ground subsidence. Built for a 100-year operational lifetime and a 500,000-hour mean time between failures, the service executes authenticated update protocols and version control within the navigation architecture to archive continuous terrain changes across long-duration missions.
