DNA Genomic Library

Extracted DNA and Synthetic Genomic Library

The Extracted DNA and Synthetic Genomic Library is a bio-storage subsystem of the L1-GEN Lunar Ark designed to preserve extracted DNA, synthetic constructs, and complete genome sequences for species reconstruction. Physical DNA is stored as dried films, solutions, or silica-encapsulated nanospheres, reaching theoretical storage densities of 215 petabytes per gram using error-correcting encoding. Long-term preservation depends on isolating samples from lunar thermal swings; dried DNA requires continuous storage at -20 °C to last centuries, while cryogenic silica encapsulation protects genetic material for millennia. To mitigate physical degradation over its 100-year operational lifetime, digital genome sequences stored in L1-DVT enable recreation via direct DNA synthesis.
