Sorting Conveyor

Belt + Air-Jet Diverter Conveyor for Item Routing

The sorting conveyor is a 20-kilogram mechanism that transports items past a scanner at 0.3 meters per second and routes them into assigned bins using compressed-air diverters. Actuating within 50 milliseconds, the pneumatic solenoids direct classified cargo while sending unclassified or hazardous objects to a reject path. Lunar deployment requires a PTFE-coated nylon belt to prevent dust accumulation, as well as an auxiliary gas supply or local compressor to run the pneumatic diverters. Consuming 100 watts, the system utilizes replaceable belt segments rated for 5,000 operating hours to maintain a 20,000-hour mean time between failures across stainless steel rollers.
