Motorized Radiator Panel Deployment and Retraction System

A radiator deployment mechanism is a motorized assembly that unfolds, positions, and retracts thermal control panels to modulate heat rejection against solar input. Utilizing stepper motor-driven scissor mechanisms, maraging steel springs, and titanium hinge pins lubricated with molybdenum disulfide, the system alters panel surface area according to thermal load. Operating on the Moon is complicated by fine dust that fouls exposed mechanical joints, requiring sealed housings, and by thermal distortion loads that necessitate rigid locking latches. Furthermore, the mechanism must reliably execute panel deployment or variable-angle adjustments even after enduring decades of storage in lunar conditions.
