Pressure Vessel Inspection Provisions

In-Service Inspection Access and NDE System

Pressure vessel inspection provisions are integrated structural access ports, flush-mounted ultrasonic transducers, strain gauge rosettes, and acoustic emission sensors designed to monitor lunar habitat pressure vessel integrity. These non-destructive evaluation systems enable robotic tools to examine critical weld joints, monitor stress concentrations, and detect crack growth or wall thinning during operation. Lunar operational requirements dictate that this infrastructure support thousands of robotic inspection cycles across a 100-year program without depressurizing the vessel. Consequently, all built-in access ports and sensor mounting pads must allow continuous and periodic structural assessment without weakening the primary pressure boundary.
