Dual-Seal Pressure Door with Emergency Close

The airlock door assembly is a 17-4PH stainless steel pressure door providing entry and exit for habitat airlocks while maintaining atmospheric containment. Fitted with dual silicone O-ring seals and an intermediate leak-check port, the assembly mechanically latches to seal against pressure differentials from both sides, while a spring-loaded quick-close mechanism enables rapid closure during depressurization. On the lunar surface, seal materials must resist degradation from abrasive dust tracked in during transit. Additionally, titanium hinge pins and mechanical latches must withstand decades of cycling in hard vacuum without binding under structural thermal distortion.
