The sintered regolith foundation pad is a graded, compacted, and thermally fused ground platform that provides a stable, level base for Ark structural support. Untreated lunar regolith exhibits bearing capacities that vary significantly across depths and surface locations. Solidifying the surface via microwave or solar sintering delivers a 10- to 100-fold improvement in bearing capacity, distributing structural mass across a compacted regolith base course and separation layer. Because the lunar surface lacks liquid water, terrestrial drainage provisions are replaced by pad thermal management, and sub-surface foundation settlement must be continuously monitored across a 100-year mission life.
