Degradation Recovery

Capability Recovery from Degraded Modes

Capability recovery from degraded modes is an autonomous control system, stored as code on radiation-hardened NOR flash, that executes the stepped transition of infrastructure from reduced-function states back to full operational capability following repairs or component replacements. Drawing 0.5 W with a 500,000-hour mean time between failures, the software subsystem coordinates up to ten recovery cycles per year over a 100-year service life. Because lunar surface systems operate without atmospheric or magnetospheric radiation shielding, the process enforces authenticated mode transitions and verifies subsystem performance at each increment to prevent electrical and mechanical overloads during return-to-service sequences.
