Force/Torque Sensors

6-Axis Force/Torque Sensors for Contact Tasks

Mounted at robotic end-effectors, six-axis force/torque sensors measure three orthogonal forces up to 200 N and three moments up to 20 Nm to enable feedback-controlled gripping, insertion, and assembly. Built with a sealed stainless steel body and strain-gauge bridge, each one-kilogram unit provides active compliance data at a 100 Hz update rate with resolutions of 0.1 N and 0.01 Nm while consuming 2 W. In lunar operations, exposure to ionizing radiation requires radiation-tolerant gauges and solid-state electronics to preserve measurement fidelity across an 80,000-hour mean time between failures over a 20-year operational lifetime.
