Visual Inspection Robot

High-Resolution Visual Inspection Robot with Macro Camera

The High-Resolution Visual Inspection Robot is a 5 kg mobile unit equipped with a 20-megapixel CMOS macro camera and near-infrared multi-spectral imaging to detect defects across Lunar Ark structures and equipment. Operating on 20 W of power via a mobile platform or robotic positioning arm, the system executes machine-learning defect detection across a 15-year lifetime with a 30,000-hour mean time between failures. Sustaining precision optics over long inspection schedules requires enduring the lunar vacuum, abrasive regolith dust, and 300 K temperature swings that degrade mechanical joints and unshielded electro-optical sensors.
