Cumulative Dose Monitoring

TLD + Active Dosimeter Network Throughout Ark

Cumulative dose monitoring employs a distributed 3 kg network of passive thermoluminescent dosimeters and active silicon PIN diodes across 30 habitat, vault, and electronics locations to construct real-time and cumulative radiation maps. Because unshielded lunar surface radiation delivers 200 to 380 mSv/yr, continuous tracking is critical to validate shielding and inform multi-decade structural upgrades. The system pairs monthly passive accumulation with real-time rate sensing down to a 1 µSv resolution, drawing 5 W of power. Radiation-tolerant readout electronics, calibrated against an onboard reference source, maintain measurement accuracy across a 25-year operational lifetime.
