RTG Wiring Harness

RTG Power and Instrumentation Cabling

The RTG power and instrumentation cabling harness routes approximately 500 We of electrical output and health monitoring signals from the radioisotope thermoelectric generator to power conditioning and telemetry systems. Constructed from silver-plated copper conductors with radiation-resistant PTFE insulation and stainless steel overbraid, the assembly must bridge a severe thermal gradient between the roughly 200 °C generator housing and the ambient interior. Cable materials and redundant routing paths are engineered to minimize ohmic losses and withstand continuous ionizing radiation from the adjacent plutonium-238 heat source across a 100-year operational life.
