Low-Conductance Composite Isolation Strap

A low-conductance composite isolation strap is a 2 kg passive structural element made of G10 fiberglass and titanium 6Al-4V that mechanically secures cold-stable assemblies while limiting conductive heat leak to 0.1 W per strap. In lunar applications, cryocooler cold fingers and cryogenic instruments must remain thermally decoupled from warm support structures despite ambient 300 K temperature swings and 14-day diurnal cycles. Utilizing composite I-beam profiles, the strap provides the load-bearing strength necessary to anchor cryogenic hardware in 1/6 g while resisting thermal transfer, maintaining structural integrity across a 100-year operational lifetime.
