Cable Routing Infrastructure
Aluminum Cable Trays and Bulkhead Penetrations
The cable routing infrastructure consists of 200 meters of 6061-T6 aluminum trays, conduit, PTFE strain reliefs, and 50 316L stainless steel bulkhead penetrations that organize and protect the settlement cable plant. Engineered as a 100-kilogram passive network with a 100-year design life, it physically separates power, signal, radio frequency, and fluid lines across compartments. Lunar thermal cycling demands resilient bulkhead penetrations that preserve pressure boundary integrity under severe expansion and contraction. Modular tray segments facilitate field-replaceable unit maintenance, while pre-installed pull tape inside conduits permits future cable additions without comprehensive rewiring.

Purpose
Aluminum cable trays, conduit, bulkhead penetrations, and strain reliefs that organize the cable plant for serviceability and reliability.
Context
Child of L2-PDM-HARN within the Lunar Ark system
Principles
- ▸Cable trays separate power, signal, RF, fluid lines
- ▸Bulkhead penetrations maintain pressure boundary integrity
- ▸Strain reliefs at every termination
- ▸Pull tape pre-installed in conduit for future cable adds
- ▸Color-coded labeling per ECSS-Q-ST-70-08C
Typical implementations
- ▸ISS cable tray heritage
- ▸Apollo electrical bay layouts
- ▸Industrial cable management (Hoffman, Thomas & Betts)
Lunar considerations
- ▸Modular cable trays support FRU replacement
- ▸Bulkhead seals must accommodate thermal cycling
- ▸Pull tape enables future expansion without complete re-cable
