Spectroscopic Composition + Hardness Verification

The materials verification unit is a 20-kilogram inspection system comprising an X-ray fluorescence detector, an optical emission spectroscopy spark source, and Rockwell or Vickers hardness indenters to confirm that manufactured parts meet alloy and mechanical specifications. Operating on 100 watts, the hardware achieves a composition accuracy of 0.5 percent with a 30,000-hour mean time between failures. Long-duration lunar deployment across its 15-year design life requires long-life spectroscopic excitation sources, machine-learning-augmented analysis, and routine calibration against physical reference samples to inspect incoming material lots and critical structural components.
