Self-Healing Material and Autonomous Seal System

The self-healing material and autonomous seal system integrates microencapsulated chemical agents, vascular networks, and shape-memory polymers into habitat structures to autonomously repair small punctures without robotic intervention. Serving within the Lunar Ark L1-MMD architecture, these systems must restore complete atmospheric pressure integrity rather than basic structural strength after a micrometeorite strike. Autonomous sealing is severely constrained by the lunar environment, which requires chemical polymerization and reversible bond reformation to execute in a hard vacuum across extreme temperatures ranging from -173 °C to +127 °C. Furthermore, unreacted healing agents must resist degradation over decades of dormant exposure throughout a 100-year operational design life despite non-replenishable internal reservoirs.
