The Damage Isolation Bulkhead System comprises internal compartment walls, automated hatches, and isolation valves designed to contain pressure loss from a hull breach to the affected compartment within the Lunar Ark system's L1-MMD architecture. Operating against the vacuum of the lunar environment, the system utilizes redundant primary and secondary seals across structural barriers and utility pass-throughs for pipes and wiring. Because hatches and valves must operate reliably across a 100-year lifetime after decades of dormancy, closures are engineered to trigger automatically and fail-safe on power loss without human intervention, while maintaining parallel module layouts to preserve essential robotic access throughout the isolated facility.
