Sealed Enclosure and Mechanism Protection System

The sealed enclosure and mechanism protection system comprises dust-proof housings, hermetic barriers, labyrinth seals, and flexible bellows designed to shield precision mechanisms, bearings, actuators, and optical systems from abrasive lunar regolith. Protecting these components is exceptionally difficult because electrostatically charged, sub-micron dust particles readily penetrate conventional mechanical seals. In the lunar vacuum, seal materials face degradation from ultraviolet radiation across targeted 100-year operational lifetimes. Additionally, the lack of an ambient atmosphere prevents passive positive-pressure sealing, necessitating active gas supplies to maintain protective pressure differentials across joints without restricting the mobility of robotic actuators and rotating assemblies.
