On June 30, 2026, Firefly Aerospace announced a $144 million NASA Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) contract to deliver a rapid Blue Ghost mission to the Moon. The mission is targeted for launch in 2028 and is Firefly’s sixth contracted lunar mission to date, with design, build, test, and delivery planned in about two years—roughly half the timeline of Blue Ghost Mission 1.
The payload set is strategically relevant to lunar infrastructure: Blue Ghost will return to the Moon’s near side and carry three NASA science instruments, including the Laser Retroreflector Array for precision laser ranging, the Linear Energy Transfer Spectrometer for radiation measurement, and the Stereo Cameras for Lunar Plume Surface Studies to analyze touchdown plume interactions. These capabilities directly inform landing precision, radiation environment characterization, and surface-disturbance modeling—three core requirements for safe habitation, logistics, and long-term asset preservation on the Moon.
Ark priority is to track Firefly’s delivery cadence, instrument results, and the maturity of Blue Ghost as a repeatable lunar platform. The team should compare the near-side mission architecture with Ark requirements for landing-site geodesy, radiation hardening, dust mitigation, and resupply cadence, then integrate any validated operational data into habitat siting, external system shielding, and long-range lunar logistics planning.
