On June 30, 2026, Firefly Aerospace announced a $144 million NASA Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) contract to deliver a rapid Moon mission using its Blue Ghost lunar lander, marking its sixth contracted lunar mission. The mission is targeted for launch in 2028 and is planned to be designed, built, tested, and delivered in about two years, roughly half the timeline of Blue Ghost Mission 1.
The mission signals a shift from one-off lunar demonstrations toward repeatable, faster commercial access to the lunar surface. For lunar habitation and preservation, that lowers logistics latency, increases cadence for science and infrastructure payloads, and strengthens the case for distributed, redundant supply chains that can support surface power, navigation, thermal testing, radiation measurement, and precision landing operations.
