Technically, this site is critical because it offers near-continuous sunlight for power, line-of-sight communications to Earth, and access to permanently shadowed regions that may contain water ice. That combination directly supports habitation, surface mobility, radiation-mitigated operations, and eventual oxygen/hydrogen propellant production; it also reduces uncertainty about landing plume effects, rover performance, and autonomous cargo delivery in polar terrain.
The Ark team should track payload results from the first base demo, especially power system performance, regolith interaction, thermal cycling, communications uptime, and any confirmation of accessible water ice. Integrate site-design assumptions for polar illumination, dust mitigation, and cargo logistics into lunar archive models, and prioritize documentation of commercial partner performance, since NASA’s Moon Base architecture depends on repeated robotic validation before crew arrival.
