For lunar habitation and long-duration preservation, the key implication is that the safety gap is not limited to current harms; it includes insufficient preparation for advanced autonomous systems that could be embedded in logistics, power, life support, cybersecurity, and decision support.[1][3][9] If these systems are integrated into Ark operations without strong isolation, monitoring, and hard shutdown controls, their failure modes could propagate into critical infrastructure faster than human operators can respond.[4]
The Ark team should treat frontier AI as a high-consequence dependency and monitor whether labs reverse safety commitments, increase military integration, or weaken pre-deployment controls as capability advances.[2][3][7][11] Priority research should focus on air-gapped governance, tool-call logging, autonomous-system segmentation, suspension procedures, and independent red-team evaluation for any AI used in habitat control, archives, or command support.[4]
